Position Overview

Call for Volunteer_Community Manager_ALATT-MATI

Kabod Language Services is seeking a passionate individual to serve as Community Manager for our Marketplace of African Language Translators & Interpreters (MATI) initiative and the network of African language translators and teachers (ALATT). MATI is a centralized online marketplace connecting African LSPs, freelancers, and clients, facilitating project collaboration, resource sharing, and streamlining the procurement process. While ALATT is a platform for networking and collaboration, MATI is more of a talent marketplace that eases access to gigs, jobs, and consulting opportunities among qualified linguists, with a focus on African languages. As a Community Manager for both MATI and ALATT, you will work closely with our esteemed team to drive the success of both communities of practice and contribute to the professional development of African linguists and the economic progress of African LSPs. This document would give you more understanding on the work, vision and values of Kabod Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their goals and tailor advertising strategies to meet their objectives.

  • Facilitate communication and engagement among members of the MATI WhatsApp platform and ALATT LinkedIn Group.

  • Coordinate virtual networking sessions and other community-building activities.

  • Support the promotion and visibility of MATI & ALATT through social media platforms and other channels.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of initiatives to enhance the MATI platform’s functionality and user experience.

Requirements

  • Strong passion for African languages, a commitment to promoting multilingualism and building the language industry in Africa.

  • Background in translation and/or interpreting, with a focus on African languages preferred.

  • Being bilingual in French would be an advantage, though not required.

  • Experience in digital marketing, content marketing or communities of practices.

  • Proven ability to work independently and being very productive remotely.

  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and digital communication tools.

  • Excellent digital communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A strong learning spirit and collaborative mindset.

Duration

This volunteering position is for a period of 3 months remotely. Applicants must ensure they have a laptop and a regular access to internet.
