Launch of Afrolinguals Magazine: A Unique Resource for Language Service Providers in Africa and Beyond

ACCRA, GHANA – August 1, 2024—Kabod Language Services is proud to announce the upcoming launch of its magazine, Afrolinguals, scheduled for 10 August 2024. Afrolinguals is the first quarterly magazine dedicated exclusively to the language services industry in Africa. With over 2,000 languages spoken across its vast expanse, the relevance of language services in Africa cannot be overstated. Afrolinguals is one initiative among many that contribute to building a robust language industry in Africa. To create a thriving industry, Kabod Group is working on multiple fronts:

  • Infrastructure and Policies: As a co-founder of The Association of Language Companies in Africa (ALCA) [www.alca-africa.org], Kabod contributes to developing robust infrastructure and policies. ALCA aims to increase professionalism, accelerate advocacy for excellence, and promote the application of global standards by Language Service Providers (LSPs) in Africa. ALCA is organizing the upcoming Annual Conference for LSPs in Africa in August 2024. Register for it here.

  • Education & Learning: Kabod is building education and learning opportunities through various initiatives. These include organizing African Language Conferences and hosting Kabod Language Services (KLS) Talk, an event that fosters continuous professional development by discussing timely themes relevant to the language industry. KLS Talk provides opportunities for knowledge sharing, networking, and skill enhancement, contributing to the growth and innovation of the African language services sector. The newly launched Afrolinguals magazine further supplements these educational efforts.

  • People: Kabod creates an environment for networking, collaboration, and professional growth through its Communities of Practice (CoP). These include the Marketplace of African Language Translators & Interpreters (MATI) and the network of African Language Translators and Teachers (ALATT). Free to join here. These platforms facilitate connections among professionals and provide access to opportunities for qualified linguists, fostering a vibrant and interconnected community of language experts across Africa.

  • Environment and Sustainability: Kabod demonstrates its commitment to long-term industry sustainability through various initiatives. A key component of this is the prestigious African Translators and Interpreters Award (ATIA), which recognizes excellence in the field and encourages continuous improvement and innovation within the African language services community.

In an increasingly interconnected world, the language services industry in Africa is booming. The demand for qualified professionals in the linguistic field is exploding with a rapidly growing economy and a burgeoning digital landscape. Afrolinguals addresses this urgent need by offering a unique platform where language professionals can connect, share perspectives, and promote the advancement of our linguistic landscape.

Afrolinguals aims to share stories, perspectives, and experiences from language professionals across the continent, create a vibrant network where linguistic experts can connect and collaborate, and highlight cutting-edge developments and innovative practices in the language industry. We are also committed to celebrating Africa’s rich linguistic heritage and advocating for the preservation and promotion of our languages.

We invite language professionals and linguistic enthusiasts to join our community. Contact us at languages@kabodgroup.com to contribute articles, share your experiences, and participate in discussions.
